Ambient Air Cleaners
are Components of Total Industrial Ventilation System
The ventilation of a building
covers the movement of air
all through a structure. The heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) system
within a workspace supplies and removes air. The
air exchange either occurs naturally
with the use of windows and doors or mechanically
(HVAC). A building's heating and cooling
system then serves as a way to maintain
airflow to workers at a controlled and comfortable temperature
and humidity level, that is also free of contaminants. Building ventilation
is a major factor in the health
and productivity of workers.
Ventilation System Design
Size of the workspace,
type and numbers of equipment being used, and the number
of people working in the area determines the amount of air required to be delivered by an HVAC system.
It is essential that required amounts of ventilation air
flows throughout all occupied
spaces.
As mentioned above, the best industrial air cleaning
program has to include an emphasis on the importance of
filters. Always use the filter with the highest
efficiency rating possible while maintaining the
required airflow. Make sure that the filters
are the correct size in order to minimize air escaping
around them rather than filtering through them.
Double check installation to ensure that the filters are installed in
the correct orientation relative to airflow, and
that they are seated in the filter rack properly.
Be sure to keep all outdoor intakes open and in
proper working condition. As a final reminder, regardless of the air flow
needed for heating and
cooling, the minimum outdoor air flow outlined by ASHRAE
needs to be provided to each space.
